Hi Reader, Motorcycling - Bicycling - Writing - Goz - Events - Books + Boo! This is so sad—but at least it went to a good home. Do you get attached to your vehicles? My 1997 KLR650 was my favorite motorcycle. I rode it the most—whether I was heading 100 miles or 1000—to Portland, Tahoe, or Baja. It was the everything bike, whether I was riding the superslab or picking my way through rocks, racing through sand, or fording streams, it was reliable, comfortable, quiet, and fit me perfectly. And now it’s gone. The new owner, Ron, saw it on Craigslist and drove down from Reno to grab it. Reno/Tahoe is a great place to ride, too, and he plans to explore the passes and summits with his wife riding pillion. Wow. That was the last of the three, and I can’t believe I don’t have any motorcycles! I’ve kept my gear, though, thinking I might shop for a DCT (automatic) model that won’t stress my hands—or maybe a big scooter. We’ll see after the rainy season, though winter in California can be glorious. Meantime, I’m enjoying my electric bicycle—a Specialized Turbo Tero (made right here in Morgan Hill). It’s a touring/mountain bike, and I’ve used it for both. It’s awesome! GozFriendsOur team of friends and family finally finished Michael Gosney's website, a tribute to his life and work. Some of you knew us as partners starting in the mid-90s (see the publishing section for a couple of our projects), and he remained a treasured friend until he passed in April 2022. If you knew him, you know how collaborative he was, and we're still asking for photos, art, and writing that may be out there still. Note the SUBMIT CONTENT at the top left of each page and upload anything you've got! Thanks for making this a record of not just Michael's work, but the work of the hundreds of people he collaborated with over the years. We still miss him so much! ❤️ WritingI’m still writing my China stories and working on other travel pieces, but mostly I’m editing the China book. Thanks for your feedback! I’ve posted a new prologue. I hope you enjoy it! Classes & Publishing ProgramsThe Writing & Publishing Circle community I set up last year continues to gather steam with its free community and resources and I'm about to launch the Publishing Compass program for 2026. You can't enroll yet but you can sign up to be notified when the program opens next week. Boo! Books I'm Reading & Listening ToI'm deep into audiobooks and always appreciate a good narrator. Got recommendations? Friend me on Goodreads so we can recommend books to each other. Here are all my reviews. This month:

Hi Reader, As a writer, you know your story hinges on a protagonist who feels real, relatable, and richly human. Whether that character is you in memoir—or someone you've imagined in fiction—they need to be fabulously flawed, emotionally layered, and full of contradictions. I was recently struck (again) by this powerful TED Talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, The Danger of a Single Story: Watch it here She reminds us how easily society stereotypes people based on a single version of who they...
