Last Call for Short-Form Storytelling Course for Your Mini-Memoir, Essay, or Short Story

Hi Reader,

Whether you’re writing a mini-memoir, an essay, a short story, or pulling a moment from a longer project, this course will help you shape it into a vivid, standalone piece with emotional impact.

Memoir or fiction, your story matters. Let’s make it unforgettable.

Starting Monday, July 14, The Craft of Short-Form Storytelling is a four-week course designed to empower you to:

  • Write stories with a clear structure: beginning, middle, and end
  • Develop memorable characters, settings, and turning points
  • Use reflection and resonance to deepen meaning
  • Create scenes that build tension toward the climactic moment
  • Craft stories that stand on their own or to build your memoir or novel

I’m co-teaching with Linda Joy Myers, who brings a deep memoir perspective and is also a novelist. I bring my background in short stories, essays, and articles—along with ways to use simple AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude to support your writing process.

These tools won’t write for you. But with just a little guidance, you can train them to become your 24/7 writing coach—helping you brainstorm, strengthen your scenes, and keep your momentum going. We'll show you how—if you wish!

We’ve also included an optional private discussion group where you can ask us questions, share drafts, and connect with other writers between sessions.

What you learn in this live course won’t just help you write powerful short stories—it will also help you craft compelling chapters for your memoir or novel. Every great book is built scene by scene, story by story.

Here’s what past students have said:

“I love taking courses with Carla and Linda Joy. Their expertise and supportive positivity is greatly appreciated!”
“A major insight was learning to interact with AI/ChatGPT conversationally instead of only asking for specific feedback… leading to richer reflections on my experiences and enhancing my writing process.”
“The most significant breakthrough was understanding that I can create my material as individual, self-contained pieces instead of merely chapters linked by clear transitions and underlying threads.”
“Carla and Linda Joy are wonderful as a team because they enhance each other’s presentation style.”

How would it feel to launch (or re-launch) your storytelling goals before the end of the year—and craft a story or two that you’re proud to share by the holidays?

The course runs July 14 through August 4. Join us live or catch the replays on your own time. If you have to miss a class, you can catch the replay! Either way, you’ll finish with at least one strong piece—and a process you can return to again and again.

Mondays, July 14, 21, 28 & Aug 4, 2025
We'll have 90-minutes together for a 30-45 minute lesson
and a 30-45 minute discussion session.
Plus online learning and private Q&A and discussion group
between sessions.
1:00 PM PT / 4:00 PM ET

We look forward to seeing you there!

Warmly,
Carla King

PS: If you took our Craft of Writing the Mini-Memoir Course, this is almost the same course and you have access to the materials through the end of the year. If you missed it—and many of you did!—this is the same course, updated. Want to take it again? Many students repeat courses to stay motivated and deepen their experience.

Hi Reader, Motorcycling - Bicycling - Writing - Goz - Events - Books + Boo! This is so sad—but at least it went to a good home. Do you get attached to your vehicles? My 1997 KLR650 was my favorite motorcycle. I rode it the most—whether I was heading 100 miles or 1000—to Portland, Tahoe, or Baja. It was the everything bike, whether I was riding the superslab or picking my way through rocks, racing through sand, or fording streams, it was reliable, comfortable, quiet, and fit me perfectly. And...
